JH Hosts League Forensics Meet Feb. 15 PDF Print E-mail

Classes will not be in session for students Wednesday, Feb. 15, as Jackson Heights hosts the Delaware Valley League Forencis/Speech Meet during the day. Students from 15 schools will compete in various categories including prose, extemporaneous speaking, and oration. The contests begin at 8 a.m. The public is welcome to hear the presentations. Judges will be Jackson Heights teachers and community members. League medals will be presented at the end of the meet. Jackson Heights provides lunch for judges, coaches and bus drivers that day. PTO Assists Elementary School with Classroom Purchases PDF Print E-mail

Several elementary classrooms will benefit from supplies recently purchased by the Jackson Heights Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Successful fundraising has allowed PTO to buy jump ropes for PE, headphones, math/reading sets, phonetics materials and guided reading books. PTO President Lisa Browning said, "We feel fortunate to help supply the elementary teachers with additional learning materials for their students. This is one way we can make a difference."

Students Qualify for Spelling Bee PDF Print E-mail

Several Jackson Heights students will be competing in the Jackson County Spelling Bee later this month. They will compete against peers from Holton and Royal Valley beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Holton High School auditorium. Representing Jackson Heights will be Sydney Raborn (5th grade), Hope Roles (6th grade), Kaleb Keehn (7th grade) and Marley Wareham (8th grade). Alternates are Zach Swazey, Garrett Ludlow, Mark Mavrovich and Jacoby Springer-Good. The county spelling champion will advance to the regional bee March 3 in Topeka.

The Delaware Valley League Mass Choir Festival for 7th and 8th graders will be Wednesday, Feb. 1, at JCN. Students arrive in the morning for break-out sessions and then perform in concert as a group at 1:30 p.m.
